2017 - 2018
Hello there! I’m Joel and I come from Great Britain. Last year I finished my Physics degree at the University of Nottingham and since September 2017 I’ve been working with Todd and company to share the gospel and God’s love with the people here in Taiwan.
While a student I was very involved in outreach to international students. God gave me a real heart for these students, especially a few from Mainland China. After my third year I planned to visit them in their hometowns but also knew I wanted to stay around East Asia longer. A summer job with the Taichung YMCA came up. I took it and so spent the summer of 2016 here.
Before arriving, I’d heard about Taichung International Fellowship and Mission Taiwan and was struck by just how aligned my heart was with what they claimed to be about. Across that summer God let me be one with these people, living out what we believe in this setting. It really changed my perspective on the how God uses his people to establish his Kingdom and opened my eyes to see that many people haven’t had the chance to hear the good news of the gospel. I’m utterly thankful for what God did that summer in me and in the lives of some of my friends here. I knew God would call me back here again someday.
Having graduated, I’m now back as a Missionary intern. This means I get to work alongside Todd and the other interns on a regular basis and get a great insight into missionary and expat life here. We get to grow through all the ups and down and experience what God’s doing here first-hand.
I really believe every Christian is called to live out Jesus’ Great Commission wherever they are. Right now I don’t know whether or not full-time mission is in my future. Regardless, I hope this time will further equip me to share the gospel with whoever I meet in whatever comes next. He’ll use us however He wills for His glory and to make Himself known.
